American box office faces 2% decline in 2017

Yearly gross analysis shows that North American box office has faced 2% of decline in 2017.

The domestic total for American box office in 2017 has reached $10.35 billion which shows at least 2% decline from last year’s record, an American media reported.

This shows that American total box office record in 2017 is the same as 2015 which means for the first time after a decade movie-going in the US, it is hampered by movie-goers' lack of interest.

While in Europe and Asia the yearly gross for 2017 shows remarkable increase, America has faced decline in box office records that may partly be related to the recent youth poverty rate in the US.

“The youth poverty rate in the United States is the highest across the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development with 35 member countries which is a forum of countries describing themselves as committed to democracy and the market economy) with one quarter of youth living in poverty compared to less than 14% across the OECD,” The Guardian reported.
